17th March: Arrival in Frankfurt
Depart from Malta and take a flight to Frankfurt, where you will check in for an overnight stay in an airport hotel in Frankfurt.
18th March: Rovaniemi – Northern Lights Tour
Take a flight from Frankfurt to Rovaniemi and transfer to Vaatunki Wilderness Resort for a 2-night stay. After settling in to your accommodation, you are free to enjoy the surroundings of the resort.
After dinner you will embark on a Northern Lights Exploration Tour. On the nights we have clear forecast in the area, we most likely will be using one location for photography to make sure we catch the most of the Aurora show and avoid sitting in the van too much. We only make a fire and grill sausages if the locations we use during the night allow it. We will concentrate on night photography in the middle of the Arctic nature and take you to some of our night photography locations!
19th March: Explore Rovaniemi
After breakfast you have the choice to embark on one of the following;
- Optional visit to the stunning Korouoma Frozen Waterfalls. Frozen rivers and rugged gorges pierce the snowy scenery as we hike on the trail through wilderness. This adventure is your top choice to experience versatile Arctic nature including forests, ice falls, rivers, cliffs and wilderness.
- Optional visit Santa Claus Village to meet Santa and cross the magical Arctic Circle. Send mail to your friend with a special Arctic Circle stamp, meet Santa’s reindeer, shop in gift shops.
In the evening you are free to enjoy dinner.
After you may interested in joining the optional Northern Lights Adventure with Electric Snowmobiles. We ride our eSleds to the top of the hill, far from the city lights – an ideal place for watching the Northern Lights. We stop to observe and admire the night sky and stars, and, if we are lucky, see the Northern Lights as well.
20th March: Transfer to Saariselka / Aurora Camp
Transfer to Juutua Wilderness Resort for a 2-night stay. In the afternoon, you are free to enjoy the facilities at the resort.
After dinner, enjoy a cozy experience at the Aurora Camp with an Open Fire Dinner under the Northern Lights.
Aurora camp is located in the vicinity of Lake Inari. Even though the camp is only fifteen minutes away from Ivalo, it is completely free of light pollution. After introductory warm drinks we take a stroll on the lake and through the forest while discussing and observing the beautiful phenomenon in the sky. Enjoy a tasty, locally sourced warm meal after we arrive back to the lodge.
21st March: Winter Hike / Optional Northern Lights Hunting
Start the morning with a winter hike to Janiskoski rapids which is one of the 10 rapids at Juutua river and the biggest one of them. There is about 1km walk to the camp spot and this trip is suitable for everyone. During this trip you will learn about the river Juutua which is an important part of Inari Sámi Culture and other interesting facts about the locals and the locals’ way of living. We will enjoy warm drinks and some snacks together at a nice camp spot while listening to the sound of running water.
Optional Evening Excursion
Join us for a unique four-hour Northern Lapland adventure that combines an introduction to the science of the Aurora Borealis with an exciting hunt for the Northern Lights.The experienced guides closely monitor cloud and aurora forecasts to maximize our chances of witnessing this magical phenomenon.
22nd March: Husky Safari / Departure Lapland
Finish your adventure in Rovaniemi with an exhilarating Husky Safari, where you will glide through the snowy wilderness guided by a team of huskies.
Afterward, prepare for your return flight back to Frankfurt. Overnight in Frankfurt Airport Hotel.
23rd March: Arrival Malta
Depart from Frankfurt and return to Malta.
