A Dream Come True – An Experience Beyond Words
Some journeys are holidays. Others become memories that stay with you for a lifetime.
Tanzania had been on my bucket list since I was 16. So when my husband and I finally decided to make that dream come true, we wanted to truly experience what makes Tanzania and Zanzibar so special.
Choosing the pre-set Tanzania & Zanzibar tour with Royal Travel turned out to be one of the best decisions we could have made. From the very beginning, everything felt incredibly well organised. Every detail had been thought through, which allowed us to simply enjoy the experience without having to worry about the logistics. The itinerary was wonderfully balanced, taking us through some of Tanzania’s most spectacular landscapes and wildlife destinations before ending with the tranquillity and beauty of Zanzibar.
From Tarangire to the Serengeti
Our adventure began at Tarangire National Park, and it was almost impossible to believe that what we were seeing was real.
The excitement of our first safari, spotting animals in their natural environment, was something I will never forget. Every game drive brought something unexpected, and there was a wonderful sense of anticipation each time our guide spotted something in the distance.
Then came the Serengeti.
There really are no words that adequately describe being there. The sheer vastness of the landscape, the silence, the colours and, most of all, the wildlife make you feel incredibly small in the best possible way.
One of the greatest highlights was having the opportunity to spot the Big Five. Seeing these magnificent animals in the wild, rather than behind barriers or in captivity, was an incredibly humbling experience.
But perhaps what made the safari so special was not simply the number of animals we saw, but the closeness to nature. At times, wildlife seemed almost impossibly close to us, and yet everything felt natural and respectful. Watching these animals behaving completely naturally in their own environment is something that stays with you.

When wildlife comes to you...
One of our most memorable experiences was at Olea Farm Lodge.
We quickly realised that in Tanzania, you don’t necessarily have to go looking for wildlife — sometimes the wildlife comes to you!
Having wild animals so close to our camp was both thrilling and surreal. There was something incredibly special about waking up surrounded by the sounds and atmosphere of the African wilderness and knowing that you were genuinely immersed in nature.
It was one of those moments when you stop and think: I am actually here.

A bird’s-eye view of the Serengeti
Another unforgettable highlight was our hot-air balloon experience over the Serengeti.
Watching the sun rise over the vast plains from above was simply magical. The landscape stretched endlessly beneath us, and seeing the Serengeti from this perspective gave us an entirely different appreciation of its beauty.
It was peaceful, breathtaking and almost dreamlike — one of those experiences that you know you will remember forever.

A glimpse into Maasai life
Our visit to a Maasai family added another very special dimension to the trip.
Beyond the spectacular landscapes and wildlife, it was the people who made our experience feel even more meaningful. Having the opportunity to meet a local family and gain a glimpse into their way of life was both fascinating and humbling.
It reminded us that Tanzania is not only about the incredible animals and scenery; it is also about the people, their traditions, their warmth and their connection to the land.

The people behind the journey
A huge part of what made the trip so enjoyable was the hospitality we experienced throughout.
The local organisers and guides were exceptional. They made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived and were always approachable. No question was ever too small, and they were genuinely keen to make sure we were enjoying ourselves.
And, of course, they seemed to have an incredible ability to spot animals that we would never have noticed ourselves!
Their knowledge, enthusiasm and patience added so much to the safari experience. You could tell that they genuinely cared about giving visitors the best possible experience while respecting the environment and the animals.

And then... Zanzibar
After the excitement of the safari, arriving in Zanzibar felt like stepping into another world.
The transition from the vast African savannah to the turquoise waters, beautiful beaches and relaxed atmosphere of Zanzibar was the perfect ending to our adventure.
It gave us the opportunity to slow down, take everything in and simply enjoy the beauty around us.

A journey we will carry with us forever
The wildlife, the landscapes, the people, the incredible hospitality and the feeling of being so close to nature made this truly an experience of a lifetime.
But perhaps the greatest thing I brought home with me were two simple Swahili expressions: “Hakuna Matata” — no worries, and “Pole Pole” — slowly, slowly.
They are more than just words. After experiencing Tanzania, they feel like a way of life — a reminder to worry less, slow down, appreciate the moment and enjoy the journey.
Two little phrases that I hope will stay with me for life.
A heartfelt thank you to Royal Travel and the wonderful local team for making a dream I had carried since I was 16 become a reality that I will never forget.
Asante sana, Tanzania. Until we meet again.
