Day 1: Arrival in Havana
Meet & greet at the airport by your English speaking guide and transfer to your hotel in Havana.
Day 2: La Habana / Vinales / La Habana
Breakfast and departure for Valle de Viñales, the westernmost province of Cuba where the best tobacco in the world is grown. During the trip it will be possible to admire valleys of royal palms (Cuba’s national tree). Stop at the Mirador de Los Jazmines, a panoramic point to admire the valley. Visit to the Casa del Veguero (tobacco plantation), to learn how local tobacco production takes place.
Panoramic view across the Valle de Viñales and entry to the astonishing Mural de la Prehistoria, located above the natural wall of Mogote Pita, in the Sierra de los Órganos; it was created starting from a drawing by the artist Leovigildo González Morillo with the intention of representing the evolutionary process of life from his point of view. The mural is 120 m long and is the largest open-air painting in the world. Visit to the Cueva del Indio, considered one of the UNESCO wonders, it is a cave formed by solid limestone formations, with galleries that bear the names of famous people; it can be visited partly on foot and partly by going up the underground river by boat. Lunch in a local restaurant.
Return to Havana. Accommodation and overnight stay at the booked facility.
Day 3: Havana – Cienfuegos – Trinidad
Early in the morning start for a longer trip to Central Cuba, following the “autopista”, the Cuban central highway, sometimes nearly empty without traffic and where you still can encounter strange “vehicles” such as horse drawn carriages, bicycles or sleeping cows.
First stop in Cienfuegos with its French colonial architecture around the main square Parque Marti with the nostalgic Terry Theatre, where once Caruso sang. After a visit to the Peninsula Punta Gorda with its mudejar-style Palacio del Valle and the white YachtClub you will follow the panoramic coast road to Trinidad – UNESCO world heritage with unique colonial architecture.
Day 4: Trinidad / Topes De Collantes / Trinidad
Breakfast and departure for Topes de Collantes, to explore the paths of the Guanayara Park. It is recommended to wear suitable clothing and shoes for the excursion. Along the route you will be able to admire natural pools, caves, jets of water, flora and fauna, until you reach the Rocio waterfall, which forms a natural pool where you can swim. Typical lunch at the “La Gallega” restaurant. On the way back we will make a stop at the Casa del Cafè. Return to Trinidad. Accommodation and overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 5: Trinidad – Santa Clara – Cayo Santa
After breakfast, start of the visit to Trinidad, one of the first cities founded by the Spanish in the 16th century and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Visit to the Iglesia Parroquial de la Santísima Trinidad, one of the largest temples in the country and characterized by the three-bell bell tower; visit to the Romantic Museum (formerly Palacio Brunet) containing a Pagina 2 di 6 rich exhibition of 19th century furniture. Walk through the historic center and visit the craft market which develops in the narrow streets of the centre. Stop at the “La Canchanchara” Bar to taste the typical cocktail of the area considered the oldest in Cuba, based on rum, lime, honey, water and ice and served in a terracotta cup. Lunch in a local restaurant.
After lunch, departure to visit the 45 m high Manaca Iznaga Tower located in an old 18th century sugar estate, 15 kms from Trinidad, in the Valle de Los Ingenios; arriving at the highest point of the tower (about 42 meters high), you will be able to see the entire fund and the plantation, the house and the slave sheds. Return to the booked facility. Overnight stay.
Day 6: Trinidad / Santa Clara / Havana
After breakfast, departure for Santa Clara, the “Liberal City” which played a key role in the battles for independence and the Cuban Revolution. Arrival and visit to the Mausoleum of Ernesto Che Guevara, where he and his comrades in command rest. Visit to the Tren Blindado Museum, where you can admire the real train captured by the revolutionaries in December 1958. Lunch in a typical restaurant. Continuation of the journey to Havana. Arrival at the booked hotel. Accommodation and overnight stay.
Day 7: Departure
Breakfast in the hotel (check-out at 12:00). Time available until the time of the transfer to La Habana Airport to take the intercontinental flight.
