Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be – An Binh Island
We leave behind the hustle and bustle of city life and drive from the hotel to Cai Be, a river town in Tien Giang province in the Mekong Delta.
From here, we board a ferry to the island of An Binh to start our cycling adventure. This picturesque, laid-back island is bursting with tropical scenery, with palm-lined beaches, rocky alcoves and trails that snake through rich paddies and farmland.
In the afternoon, we explore more of the island before enjoying dinner at our overnight homestay.
Day 2: An Binh Island – Vinh Long – Can Tho
From here, we start our day’s biking and head to Long Phuoc village cycling through verdant countryside, patchworks of paddies and fruit orchards and along the area’s canals and tributaries. Along the way, we stop at the Temple of Literature, meet local handicraft and artisan producers and explore an ancient villa. We then head to Long Hiep and continue cycling to Tam Binh, with a glimpse into the daily lives of locals as we ride through villages and past farmers tending to their land. We visit bustling Tam Binh Market before lunch.
Day 3: Can Tho – Cai Rang – Ho Chi Minh City
After breakfast at the hotel, we board a boat and sail along the Rach Ngong River to the bustling floating market of Cai Rang – the largest floating market on the Mekong Delta. Here, hundreds of boats jostle on the water to trade the freshest fish, fruit, vegetables and other goods. We then take a leisurely stroll through some of the colourful fruit orchards that dot the region and continue on to Ba Lang village.
From here, we start today’s ride, cycling through more tranquil country settings, meeting friendly locals along the way, which gives us a snapshot into rural life in the Mekong Delta.
